Maybe you've been in counseling or therapy before, and you even found it helpful, but you still feel the burden of what you have been through. That is because what you have experienced is trauma, which is very difficult to process with just talk therapy.
EMDR therapy goes to the root of your symptoms. It deals with a deeper part of your brain, the part of your brain where trauma is stored (where talk therapy can't often reach).
People who have been impacted by sexual assault can struggle with being around crowds, being around men, being touched in general, having physical intimacy with your partner, being startled or frightened easily, having trouble sleeping or having nightmares.
It can also be hard to shake feelings of shame, and it can feel like your body is dirty or doesn't belong to you. You may start avoiding any place or thing that reminds you of what happened, even if that negatively impacts your life.
Everyone is unique, but all of these are symptoms I have seen again and again in my work. You are not alone in this. I am so passionate about using EMDR to give you real relief from this pain. We will go beyond managing symptoms, and will use EMDR to reprocess the trauma, so that your symptoms dramatically decrease or disappear altogether.
Before doing EMDR, we will have at least three talk therapy sessions. In these sessions, I utilize client-centered therapy, IFS, and mindfulness. I explain the science behind your symptoms and offer coping skills. We make sure that you feel ready before we begin EMDR therapy.
